In August 2024, LADOT began construction on the Hollywood Safety and Mobility Project which converted a travel lane in each direction on Hollywood Blvd into a parking-protected bike lane between Gower St in Hollywood and Hillhurst Ave in Los Feliz. The goal of this project was to reduce the high number of people being killed or severely injured in car crashes on this street and create a safe space for bikes and scooters. Since implementation, speeding on Hollywood has gone down, increases in travel delay have been very minimal, and the number of pedestrians and cyclists has increased dramatically.

During outreach, a Phase 2 of the Hollywood Safety and Mobility Project was identified to extend the project a quarter mile down Sunset Blvd from Hillhurst Ave to Fountain Ave. This will fill a critical gap in the bicycle network, linking the existing bike lanes on Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd with new protected bike lanes. This project will also make it easier and safer to navigate the intersection of Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Blvd, Hillhurst Ave, Virgil Ave, and Sunset Dr. Please watch this short video to learn about the project features.
LADOT is currently finalizing the design and schedule for Phase 2 with the goal of implementing this project in early 2027. We would like to hear feedback on the proposed design from local residents and others who regularly travel through this area.
