The Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD) is sending out Rent Registry Tenant notification letters containing a unique Property APN and Tenant Unit ID. If you did not receive yours or need a replacement, you can request it by contacting LAHD directly or accessing their online portals.
Note that the rent on the letters will be reflected based on a specific date. Your rent may be higher but not incorrect; note the date on letter.
Tenants should also verify that they are not including their SCEP and or registration fees when they are determining if the rent amount is correct. The only amount that will appear from LAHD is strictly the rent and not the permissible add-ons.
How to Convey the Information
- Inform friends that LAHD mails out notifications so they can check the rent figures reported by their landlords.
- Go to the Tenant Reported Rent Portal to confirm or dispute their rent amounts.
- These letters help protect you against illegal rent hikes under City rules.
What to Do If the Letter Is Missing
- Email LAHD: Send a message to lahd.rentregistry@lacity.org with your property’s Assessor Parcel Number (APN) in the subject line to ask for your details. You can find this on ZIMAS.
- Call the Hotline: Reach out to the LAHD general helpline or Rent Registry staff at (213) 922-9150 or toll-free at (866) 557-7368.
- Visit a Public Counter: Go to one of the public regional offices (such as the main office at 1910 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA) to speak with an agent in person.
